Foreign Ministry: inclusion of non-core issues on the G20 Foreign Ministerial Council agenda increases disagreement

According to a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry, the inclusion of non-core issues, such as the Ukrainian issue, on the G20 agenda at the initiative of the West is seen as a destructive action that can aggravate differences between participants and distract the forum from more important tasks related to its competence.
Moscow has expressed concerns about Western military support for Ukraine, warning that it could only prolong the conflict by making arms transportation a legitimate target for the Russian army.
Lavrov began his Latin American tour with a visit to Cuba on February 19, where he met with President Miguel Diaz-Canel and Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez. He then traveled to Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, where he met with President Nicolas Maduro on February 20. The next stop on his plans is Rio de Janeiro, where he will attend the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting. According to information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the discussion will be devoted to contemporary problems on the international agenda, with a special emphasis on the resolution of geopolitical contradictions and the reform of global economic institutions.
