Chinese President Xi Jinping will not go to the G20 summit in New Delhi, China will be represented at this meeting by Premier Li Qiang. This was announced by the official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry Mao Ning.

“At the invitation of the Government of India, Chinese Premier Li Qiang will attend the 18th G20 Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi on September 9-10,” she said (cit. according to RIA Novosti).

On August 31, Reuters cited sources as saying that Xi Jinping would likely miss the G20 summit. This information confirmed and the source of Vedomosti. Reuters interlocutors added that they do not know the reason for this decision.

Earlier, Reuters wrote that a meeting between Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden, who had previously confirmed his participation in the event, could take place at the G20 summit. The leaders have not met in person since the last G20 summit held in Indonesia in November 2022.

The G20 meeting will be held in New Delhi on September 9-10. Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that the Russian delegation at the event will be headed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that Russian President Vladimir Putin does not plan to personally attend the G20 summit. Lavrov also represented Russia at last year’s G20 summit in Indonesia.
