In an interview with RIA Novosti, Director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s department for non-proliferation and arms control, Vladimir Yermakov, refuted the allegations of Western countries that the Russian Federation plans to produce Iranian drones on its territory. As the diplomat noted, such claims are not supported by anything and are currently being used to divert attention from the political problems of the West related to attempts to restore the so-called Iranian nuclear deal.
Yermakov recalled that initially the stuffing through the Western media concerned “information” about the deliveries of Iranian UAVs to the Russian Federation for military operations during the NMD. Now, according to him, “to save face, the authors of the previous stuffing switched to the story that Russia is allegedly going to produce Iranian drones on its territory.” As the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized, neither one nor the other “assumptions” have so far been supported by anything other than speculation.
At the same time, speaking about the purpose of spreading such rumors, Vladimir Yermakov noted that their only value for the West is to remove from the focus of attention the main problem of Hapad in the Iranian direction – “the soonest” restart “of the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on the Iranian nuclear program – ed.) , in accordance with the parameters that were agreed back in 2015.”
