Russia is working to establish a visa-free regime with a number of countries, said Deputy Foreign Minister Yevgeny Ivanov.
“As for the visa-free regime, we have established bilateral agreements. There are many such agreements, and this work is ongoing. We have a lot of countries with which visa-free agreements are being worked out. When we sign, we will announce,” the diplomat said (quote according to RIA Novosti).
In early November, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the government to prepare proposals for establishing a visa-free regime for foreigners without taking into account the principle of reciprocity, that is, without taking into account the restrictions that were introduced for citizens of the Russian Federation when entering other countries.
At the end of August, the EU countries decided to terminate the simplified procedure for issuing visas for Russians. Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said earlier that if a complete ban on the issuance of visas to Russians is adopted, Europeans may also face inconvenience when traveling to Russia. At the same time, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on September 1 that Russia would not impose retaliatory visa restrictions against EU citizens.
