Major foreign game publishers have begun to abandon the Russian localization of new releases. In April, American Bethesda and Japanese Sega refused to support the Russian language and Russian subtitles in upcoming games, according to data from the Steam gaming platform.
In 2022, most major publishers officially left the Russian market and removed the ability to buy their games for accounts in Russia. Among them are Bethesda, Sega, EA, Ubisoft, Activision Blizzard, CD Projekt and others. Now the studios have begun to massively refuse Russian localizations. In particular, in the space role-playing action movie Starfield from Bethesda, which is due out in the fall of 2023, the Russian language disappeared from the list of supported languages in mid-April, follows from the information on the game’s page on Steam. Sega also changed its approach to the release of localizations, which removed the Russian language from the addition to the game Total War Warhammer 3 just over a week before its release on April 13, follows from Steam data.
