The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation reported that the ban on the purchase of foreign artificial lung ventilation (ALV) devices will affect only stationary intensive care devices, equipment for home ventilation will not be included in the list.
“The devices that have caused the greatest concern among the patient and medical community, primarily home ventilation devices, will not be included in the “ban” list,” the agency said in a statement (quoted from Telegram channel Ministry of Industry and Trade).
According to Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Vasily Osmakov, we are only talking about a possible ban on the purchase of only stationary foreign-made ventilators for intensive care that correspond to several codes for the type of medical product. They are currently produced by seven domestic manufacturers.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade reported that the draft resolution passed the necessary public discussions and received ten comments. The final version of the document will be “formulated taking into account the feedback received from citizens and organizations.”
The Ministry of Industry and Trade also indicated that a ban on foreign ventilators is needed to support Russian enterprises. In department considerthat local producers are able to cover the needs of the healthcare system in full. However, Konstantin Zotov, CEO of Medical Systems and Technologies, told Kommersant that in some cases, for example, when it comes to treating premature babies and adult patients with complications, “the capabilities of Russian devices will definitely not be enough.” Nine major Russian charitable foundations at the end of June turned to the Ministry of Industry and Trade with a request not to introduce this ban.
