Forecasters expect frosts of about 60 degrees in some regions of Russia

In the coming days, frosts down to –60°C are expected in Yakutia, down to –58°C in the Irkutsk region, and down to –55°C in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. Abnormal cold will also be in the Orenburg, Penza and Saratov regions. This was announced by the scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia Roman Vilfand.
According to the forecasts of the Hydrometeorological Center, on January 13 and 14 in some regions of Yakutia the temperature will drop to -58-63°C. In the Krasnoyarsk Territory from January 12 to 14, frosts down to -52-55°C are expected. Colds from -26°C to -30°C are predicted in the Orenburg and Penza regions, and down to -22°C in the Saratov region.
“Severe frosts will persist in Yakutia for the next five days, and in the Irkutsk region, the northern regions, the temperature will drop to 58 degrees on January 12-14. The temperature is 9 degrees below normal and more is predicted in the Orenburg, Penza, Saratov regions in the next two days,” said Roman Vilfand TASS.
At the end of last week, abnormal frosts were established in many regions of Russia. In Tolyatti, -28.5 °C was recorded, which is below the absolute minimum set in 1974 and 1979. The Russian Hydrometeorological Center said that the frosts began due to the anticyclone, which will soon be replaced by “warm air masses from the Atlantic.”
