For the first time, regional curling competitions were held on Sakhalin

The strongest curlers were determined on Sakhalin. The victory in the first regional tournament on the ice of the training center “Vostok” was contested by seven teams – four adults and three children.

Games among junior athletes were held according to the group system, among senior athletes – according to the Olympic system.

The main goal of curling is to score as many points as possible by moving the stones of your team to the target and simultaneously knocking out strangers from there. Each team has eight stones. Participants alternately launch them on the ice, trying to get closer to the targets. Players use long-handled brushes to rub ice in front of a moving stone, either to drive it towards the center of the target or to dislodge opponents’ projectiles.

– Today there were very interesting games and unexpected results. We competed with strong teams, with which a tense game is constantly obtained in training, – Yesenia Ostashchenko, a member of the Lord of the Stones team, shared her impressions. – I started curling spontaneously. They came to our daughter’s school to talk about this sport. As a result, curling interested not only the child, but also my husband and I. We came to training and fell in love with him from the first session.

According to the results of the competition among adult teams, the Sliders (Svetlana Tutova, Alexey Gubsky, Natalya and Alexander Kovalenko) won. The second place was taken by the “Lords of the Stones” (Tatiana and Igor Safonov, Yesenia and Dmitry Ostaschenko). The top three was closed by Alpha (Denis Komin, Oleg Vasyuk, Yesenia Borbyuk, Artur Zhuravlev).

Among the guys, the Sakhalin Brushes (Maxim Mikhailov, Maria Em, Matvey Yurchenko) became the leaders. The Sakhalin Stones (Elizaveta Mikhailova, Andrey Tarannikov, Alisa Luneva) are on the second step of the pedestal. Honorary third place at the Sakhalin Walruses (Grigory Logaryov, Alena Isaeva, Alexei Spivak, Nadezhda Klimova).

– Already next week, the Sakhalin Region will host the Far East Curling Tournament. It will be held at the Vostok training center from 8 to 12 February. Vouchers for the upcoming II Winter International Games “Children of Asia” will be raffled off at these competitions, – said the chief referee of the competition, Master of Sports of Russia Ekaterina Antonova.
