For most Russians, the status of “foreign agent” has a negative connotation.

By data VTsIOM, the phrase “foreign agent” evokes unpleasant associations in every fifth Russian (20%). Other most frequent answers include: traitor to the Motherland (18%), spy (9%), enemy of the people acting against Russia (5%).
Six out of ten respondents (61%) consider foreign agents to be traitors. For 16%, on the contrary, they are fighters for civil rights and freedom of speech in Russia.
In general, every third (33%) respondent admitted that he had a negative attitude towards foreign agents, every fifth (22%) was indifferent, and only 6% had a positive attitude. The rest vary depending on the situation.
As the survey showed, the status of a foreign agent can change the attitude towards the media of interest to respondents, their favorite singers and actors.
