Footballer Sergei Kiryakov joined the Zenit veterans team

Leningradets head coach Sergei Kiryakov enjoys playing in a team of Zenit veterans. The ex-Dynamo striker spoke about playing with the blue-white-blue veterans in an interview with the Championship.
Kiryakov takes part in games on Mondays. First League matches are held on weekends, and the Leningradets coach can devote the beginning of the week to himself. Mostly the 54-year-old footballer meets younger players on the field, but sometimes even the 1984 champions come.
“There was an interesting story about six or seven years ago – I tell all my friends. I played few matches and in three rounds I was seriously behind the top scorer. He had, relatively speaking, 22 goals, I had 11. And he already told me everywhere that he was the best. This bothered me a little. I scored 21 or 22 goals in three matches and took first place,” Kiryakov shared his story.
Let us remember that from 1986 to 1992 the player was Dynamo’s forward. Then the athlete built a career in clubs in Germany and China for thirty years. Kiryakov has held the post of head coach of Leningradets since 2021.
