The Russian national football team will play a friendly match with the national team of Qatar in September, said Maxim Mitrofanov, Secretary General of the Russian Football Union.
“There is an agreement with Qatar on a match in September not to leave,” said the head of the RFU (quoted by TASS).
June 10 Sport-express newspaper reportedthat the football federations are negotiating a friendly match in September.
The national teams of Russia and Qatar have met three times in history – in 1996, 2011 and 2016. The last meeting in Doha ended with the victory of the hosts with a score of 2:1.
The Russian national team has been suspended from participating in international tournaments under the auspices of FIFA and UEFA. The decision was made against the backdrop of the entry of troops into Ukraine in 2022. Russian Football Union formerly decided not to hold training camps of the Russian team in June. It was noted that Cameroon withdrew from the friendly match in June at the last moment.
