Football coach Leonid Slutsky was punished for insulting a journalist

The Ethics Committee of the Russian Football Union (RFU) made a decision in the case of the former head coach of the Russian national team Leonid Slutsky, who made unethical statements in a program that airs on one of the YouTube channels. He was fined 100 thousand rubles. and was conditionally banned from carrying out any football-related activities for one year.

The RFU Ethics Committee announced its solution in the case of Leonid Slutsky, a Russian football coach, known for his work in the Russian national team, CSKA, with whom he won gold medals in the Russian Championship three times, as well as in several other clubs. This story began on August 12, when, after a draw with Krylia Sovetov (1:1) in the fourth round match of the Russian Championship, Lokomotiv striker Artem Dzyuba rudely answered a question from reporter Vitaly Borodin, promising to put his “phone in one place” if he will approach him again.

A few days later, the Control and Disciplinary Committee (CDC) of the RFU punished Dzyuba was given a conditional disqualification for two matches and a fine of 50 thousand rubles, but even before that, 52-year-old Leonid Slutsky, commenting on this episode on the YouTube channel “Komment.Show”, insulted the reporter, calling him a 19-year-old moron.

As a result, the case came under the jurisdiction of the ethics committee, which punished Leonid Slutsky even more seriously than Mr. Dzyuba’s FTC—with a fine of 100 thousand rubles. and a conditional ban on any football activities for one year.

“The RFU Ethics Committee came to the conclusion that the behavior of Leonid Slutsky, a member of the RFU national teams committee, in the issue of “Comment Show” dated August 14 does not comply with the requirements of Art. 8 of the RFU ethics regulations (“Football entities need to evaluate their behavior, which may have a corresponding impact on the reputation of FIFA, UEFA, RFU, and therefore such entities must behave with dignity, ethically, respectfully at all times”),” commented on this decision Chairman of the RFU Ethics Committee Andrei Stukalov, who recalled that Leonid Slutsky had previously received a fine and conditional disqualification due to violation of regulations.

Let us remember that the last club coached by Leonid Slutsky was Rubin, which dropped out of the Russian Premier League at the end of the season before last. Having said goodbye to the Kazan team in November 2022, the coach a month and a half later began participating in the “On Football” program, which airs on Channel One.
