Kaliningrad football club “Baltika” for the first time in 25 years entered the Russian Premier League (RPL). The team secured a place in the top division ahead of schedule thanks to a goalless draw between Alania and Akron.
Baltika, which is coached by former CSKA and Russian national team player Sergey Ignashevich, takes first place in Melbet – First League with 64 points in 31 matches.
The last time the Kaliningrad club played in the RPL was in 1998. The best result in the history of the team – seventh place in the top division table in 1996.
In the 32nd round, Baltika will play Rubin Kazan, which is second in the First League with 62 points.
According to the regulations of the first division, teams that finish the season in first and second places enter the RPL. Those who took third and fourth places in the First League will play play-offs with the teams that took 13th and 14th places in the RPL for the right to play in the Russian championship next season.
