Folk signs on February 21: sharpen knives – good luck

February 21 in the folk calendar – Zakhar Serpovidets. And this year is also the second day of Maslenitsa – Flirting.

According to folk traditions, on the second day of Maslenitsa, brides were held. Large groups of boys and girls gathered early in the morning and went sledding. At the same time, young people did not forget to look closely at possible chosen ones. Often young people were accompanied by their relatives in order to also take a closer look at possible brides or grooms.

By the way, according to signs, February 21 is a good day for a marriage proposal, matchmaking, date or engagement.

The game was supposed to be fun. So the whole day passed folk festivals with songs and dances, contests, drawings, sleigh rides and other winter fun. It was believed that if a person is sad on Zaigrysh, he will spend the whole year in sadness. They also carried a stuffed Maslenitsa on a sled, and then danced around it. There was a sign that it helps to drive away not only the cold, but also the troubles that a person has.

In the evening it was customary to visit and receive guests. The hostesses put pancakes with various fillings on the table. Coins were hidden in some of the pancakes. There was a belief that the one who takes a pancake with a coin will be lucky. And the more guests taste the treat, the more happiness will be in the house.

On the day of Zakhar the Sickle-Seer, it was customary in the villages to put the sickles in order. The owners were engaged in their repair, cleaning and sharpening, so that the tools were ready for work at the right time. City dwellers can sharpen knives and scissors today to keep the traditions. It is believed that this will bring good luck in business.

According to other folk signs, on this day you can’t take risks and do important things, especially those related to finances – there is a high risk of being deceived. You can’t envy someone else’s luck – this will negatively affect the life and affairs of the envious person. You should not go fishing – there will still be no catch. It is also not recommended to visit the dentist – the treatment may be unsuccessful.

Folk signs on February 21 are as follows:

– if the day is cold, it will be warm in March;

– if a severe frost hit – soon the cold will finally recede;

– if fog spreads on the ground – to heavy rainfall;

– if the dog is worried, not finding a place for himself – to a blizzard.

Dreams that are dreamed on the night of February 22, as a rule, are “empty”, meaning nothing. A dream that occurred during the day can be prophetic, but it can come true so soon that you don’t even remember about it.
