Folk omens: October 26 – do not talk to strangers

October 26 in the folk calendar is Agathon’s day. On this day, they always went to the bathhouse: first they put things in order there, and then steamed to protect themselves from evil spirits. For the same purpose, and also to protect themselves from the possibility of being deceived, on October 26 they refrained from talking with strangers.

On Agathon’s Day in Russia, the so-called bathing routine was arranged: the bath was well melted and steamed using healing herbal infusions – it was believed that this would help get rid of various ailments and expel demons. But before drowning the bath, they put things in order in it: they cleaned the stove and the steam room itself, changed the damaged boards, benches and bath utensils. By the way, with conversations on this day you need to be more careful not only in the steam room. It is believed that conversations with strangers today can lead to various troubles, the most “innocent” of which is the likelihood of being deceived. An evil spirit can also take on the image of a person, and conversations with evil spirits never lead to good. On Agafonov’s day, they tried not to swear with relatives – it was believed that otherwise, the one who arranges a quarrel will have a black streak in life.

Also, if you follow popular beliefs, it is better to drink only soft drinks on October 26 – so as not to incur financial problems for yourself and your family. In addition, this day is not the best for borrowing or lending money – there are likely to be problems with repaying such a loan. Large purchases should also be postponed – there is a risk that the acquisition will not please and will not last long. But the existing valuables should be kept close to you and not left unattended – today there is a high probability that hunters of other people’s goods will not resist the temptation.
