Folk omens November 19 – it’s time for the river to freeze

November 19 in the folk calendar – Pavel Ledostav. During the day it is usually always frosty, and by this time the rivers are covered with ice. If the rivers were frozen, it was believed that the ice would not melt until spring.

It is still dangerous to go out on the ice, it is still very thin, but it’s time to prepare gear for winter fishing. What our ancestors did on this day.

If the autumn turned out to be especially warm and the water in the river had not yet frozen, coins and goodies were thrown into it to appease the waterman.

According to folk signs, if you spend this day with your family, then there will be no disputes and disagreements between relatives for a long time. And if someone wishes you harm, swing a broom at him, and all evil will return to him.

Even today it is better to give up all meat, otherwise you can get sick or incur trouble. You can’t offend animals either – luck will turn away for a long time.

There are other prohibitions that, according to signs, should be observed on this day – you cannot make large purchases and financial transactions, borrow and lend, break promises and chat in vain.

Folk signs on November 19 are as follows:

– if the weather is calm – frost will come soon;

– if the evening dawn is scarlet – the weather will be windy and cloudy;

– if there are a lot of stars in the sky – to a strong cooling;

– if the birds fly closer to the houses, it will snow;

– if sparrows gather and chirp loudly – to clear weather.
