Folk omens March 5: do not look at the stars

March 5 in the folk calendar is the day of Katysh. On this day, usually the last time they rode from the ice slides, as the snow and ice began to actively melt. Moreover, it was believed that the one who rolls away, having moved down the hill, the farthest, will be the happiest.

According to folk signs, on this day it is good to visit or receive guests yourself, especially those whom you have not seen for a long time. In the old days, kokurki were served to the table – round buns or koloboks made from unleavened dough. In some regions, a boiled egg was placed inside the kolobok.

In the dark, they tried not to look at the sky. There was a belief that if you see a shooting star on this day, you can lose a loved one. Not necessarily in the literal sense – so, it was believed that seeing shooting stars (well, we, of course, know that these are meteors – but still …) – to divorce, leaving the child’s home, a quarrel with a loved one that will drag on for a long time and maybe forever.

Also, according to signs, you can’t wear old shoes today – to poverty. But throwing away shoes that you will never wear again – to prosperity in the family.

You should not make promises and oaths – you will not be able to fulfill them, even if due to insurmountable circumstances.

There are signs related to hair for this day. For example, to cut a child under seven years of age – worsen his memory; a woman to curl her hair, do styling – become the object of gossip and gossip; for men to cut or shave their beard – to financial problems.

Folk signs on March 5 are as follows:

– if it rains – to the flood;

– if during the rain the sky clears up from the western side, it will soon be dry and warm;

– if it is snowing with rain – to a thaw;

– if the wind has changed direction – to improve the weather;

– if the birds bathe in the snow – to warming;

– if crows fly high – to snowfall.
