Folk omens March 1: start saving money

March 1 in the folk calendar is Yarilin’s day, the first day of spring.

Spring is here, at least according to the calendar. In Rus’, until the XIV century, this day marked the beginning of the new year. And even centuries later, this day was considered a holiday, our ancestors paid honors to Yarila, the Slavic god of the sun. They tried not to do any business, but on the contrary, it was customary to indulge in fun, invite guests and celebrate the beginning of spring with festivities.

It was believed that on this day the sun’s rays and melt water give special strength. Pregnant women, if the sky was clear, climbed some hill at dawn, exposing their faces to the sun – they believed that it would give additional strength to the mother and her child. In general, there was a belief that everyone who stands in the sun on the first day of spring will be lucky in life and in love.

If it snowed the night before, in the morning the mothers sent the children to sweep the snow from the steps, from the porch, from the paths in the yard with a broom. There was a sign that this would give children health and strength. And the snow that fell on March 1 was melted to wash – they believed that this would strengthen health and prolong youth.

Fishing enthusiasts went fishing on March 1 – it was believed that a good catch awaited them on the first day of spring.

According to another sign, March 1 is a good day to start saving money, but not just like that, but for something specific. Our ancestors believed that if you set aside at least a small amount on this day, you will be able to collect money for what was planned quite quickly. But if you borrow or lend money, you can get bogged down in financial problems.

Also, according to signs, on March 1 you can’t swear, enter into conflicts, plot evil, spread rumors – luck will turn away from evil and unkind people. You should not be offended – otherwise you will have to spend the whole year in insults and quarrels. No need to be nostalgic about the past on this day – you can get stuck in it for a long time. But plans and dreams for the future may well come true.

Folk signs on March 1 are as follows:

– if the day is sunny and warm – in the coming days the weather will deteriorate;

– if water splashes on top of the ice on the river – to warming;

– if the clouds quickly float high in the sky – the weather will be good;

– if fog has fallen on the ground, the summer will be rainy;

– if the crows croaked – to a cold snap.

Dreams on the night of March 2 can calm the heart and soul, relieve stress and anxiety, and give a hint of what needs to be done to improve life circumstances.
