Folk omens April 8: it’s time to do the garden

April 8 in the national calendar is Blagovest, and in the church calendar it is Lazarus Saturday.

This day is considered a holiday, so housework, any hard work should be postponed, as well as various business undertakings. What you can and even need to do in Blagovest is work in the garden or in the garden.

It is better to arrange a festive feast with your family, but it should not be noisy. The evening can be devoted to conversations and memories.

In Rus’, fish pies, porridge, buckwheat pancakes, vegetable dishes and mash or wine were served at the table in Blagovest. The rest of the food was not thrown away, but fed to animals and birds. It was believed that those who threw away even the leftovers would soon have to live from hand to mouth. Therefore, even the crumbs that fell on the floor were carefully collected and given to the birds.

There was also a belief that if you leave the table dirty after eating or wipe it with paper, the brownie will get angry and sow quarrels and scandals in the house.

You can not go fishing or hunting on this day, slaughter poultry or livestock, offend animals.

You can’t refuse those who ask for help. But for every good deed done today, it will be rewarded a hundredfold.

The day is also not suitable for shopping and major purchases – purchases will be unsuccessful.

Also, according to popular signs, to be greedy on this day – to poverty and ruin; counting money, discussing your financial condition – to large unforeseen expenses; walking in old or stale clothes – to illness.

Folk signs on April 8 are as follows:

– if frost hit – spring will be cold;

– if the sky is bright at sunrise, snow will no longer fall this spring;

– if a lapwing calls in the evening – to clear weather;

– if it rains heavily, the year will be mushroom.

Dreams that are dreamed on the night of April 9 can come true if they relate to the romantic or family side of life.
