Flight attendants talk about their worst nightmares on board a plane: “They defecate on the seats”

An American flight attendant with 25 years of experience has revealed the worst aspects of his job – from searching for used tampons and condoms on the plane to passengers defecating on their seats.

A flight attendant who has worked in aviation for 25 years shares his pros and cons. The disadvantages included being away from home and dealing with rude passengers. The frequent-flying steward, who only works on domestic flights, answered people’s burning questions in a Reddit post under the “Ask Me Anything” section.

The male employee listed the benefits of working as a flight attendant in the travel and healthcare industries, as well as the opportunity to experience something new every day, writes the Daily Mail.

The downsides included being away from home for days at a time, not getting paid for the many things done during the day, and having to deal with angry passengers.

“I like to work on flights until noon. So I usually have to be at the airport around 5-6 am and finish by 2-3 pm,” explained the steward, who simply said that he works for a “major US airline.”

“Some days the flights are shorter and we finish by 11am, on other days it’s as early as 5pm,” he added.

The steward explained why he decided to work only on domestic flights, citing time differences as the main reason.

“It’s hard on your body. I only fly within the US, mostly just from the Midwest to the West Coast,” he shared.

The airline employee also touched on pay levels, saying that while the first two years “suck” and the pay is about $25 an hour, that doesn’t include per diem. Some airlines pay more if flights are full or close to full, and a lot depends on what capacity you’re flying.

“The maximum payment comes after 13 years and is about $80 per flight hour,” he said.

An honest flight attendant shared what happens on some of the toughest flights during turbulence, admitting that some injuries have occurred at times.

“It was so bad that I somehow hit my head on the doorknob and cut myself,” he admitted.

The man even talked about some of the risky aspects of the job, answering the question: “Have you ever met pilots or passengers? Even after the end of the flight?”

“With passengers, yes. With other crew… I had offers, but no,” he replied. “Sleeping with colleagues actually doesn’t happen as often as rumors say. What does happen often is that that married straight pilots slept with gay male escorts.”

According to the lay employee, the worst things he has seen include fights and passengers defecating in their seats.

“But the worst for me are used condoms, dirty underwear (men’s and women’s), used tampons, to name a few,” the flight attendant claims.

“Some people think it’s their right to get on a plane and don’t take what we say seriously.” Steward added that COVID has affected passenger attitudes.

“The whole mindset of clients has changed what this work looks like,” he said.

Steward encouraged people of all ages who want to try their hand at working in the sky to do so. “We have people in their 50s and 60s who are being hired,” he shared.
