Flawless day in Madrid: Russian tennis players won all their matches in singles

The meeting lasted 1 hour and 33 minutes. Karatsev fired three times, made two double faults and converted four out of seven break points. It is worth noting separately that in the end of the second set, the Russian won four games in a row. In the third round, he will face the Australian Alex de Minor.

The 112th racket of the world Roman Safiullin beat the 17th racket of the American Tommy Paul – 6:3, 7:6. For the Russian, this is the second victory in his career over a top 20 player – last year he beat world No. 4 Stefanos Tsitsipas. 25-year-old Safiullin is playing in the Masters main draw for the third time and for the first time beyond the first round.

In turn, Alexander Shevchenko literally destroyed the 37th racket of the world Czech Jiri Lehechka in 45 minutes with a score of 6:1, 6:1. Alexander himself takes 96th place in the ranking of the Association of Tennis Professionals. It is his first time playing in the main draw of a Masters tournament. In the next round, he will play against none other than Daniil Medvedev.

In women’s singles, Russians Lyudmila Samsonova and Mirra Andreeva confidently dealt with their opponents without losing a set. Samsonova beat the Latvian Elena Ostapenko with a score of 6:2, 6:0.

Mirra Andreeva gave herself a wonderful gift for her 16th birthday. The Russian tennis player won a more than convincing victory over the Polish athlete, the 19th racket of the world Magda Linett in the third round match. The meeting ended with the score 6:3, 6:3. Thus, Mirra became the youngest participant in the 1/8 finals at the WTA 1000 tournament in the history of this category of tournaments (exists since 2009). Andreeva is only the fourth tennis player under 17 who reached the 1/8 finals at a tournament of this level. In the next round, she will play with the Belarusian Arina Sabolenko.
