The Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Nikolai Evmenov, said that in the medium term, five divisions and one marine brigade will be formed in Russia. The head of the Ministry of Defense Sergei Shoigu said back in December 2022 that the marine brigades would be strengthened into divisions.
“In order to increase the combat capabilities of the Marine Corps as a separate branch of the Navy, in the medium term it is planned to reorganize the existing five Marine Corps brigades in the fleets into Marine Divisions, and the Caspian Flotilla Marine Regiment into a brigade,” Mr. Evmenov said in an interview with the newspaper “A red star”. The Navy Commander-in-Chief did not provide an exact time frame for the creation of the divisions.
In accordance with the decree of President Vladimir Putin, the maximum strength of the Russian armed forces was increased by 170 thousand military personnel, to 1 million 320 thousand military personnel. Kremlin saidthat the increase in the Russian army is connected with the “proxy war” of the West. According to the Ministry of Defense, in 2023 in the RF Armed Forces were formed two armies and 50 new formations.
