Finns and French work the least in the EU – Kommersant

The French research center Rexecode analyzed Eurostat data for 2022 and came to conclusion, that among all residents of EU countries, Finns work the least. Workers Finland full-time workers work only 1,640 hours per year, well below the European average of 1,792 hours. The compatriots of the authors of the study take second place from the end in terms of the number of hours worked – 1668. And in third place from the end Swedes — 1672 hours per year.
“The effective working hours of workers in France at full employment has remained lower than the European average and compared to its main neighbors since the early 2000s. The gap has been fairly stable since 2005, with the exception of Germany, where annual effective work hours fell between 2006 and 2019, but remained significantly higher than in France,” said Olivier Redoul, research director at Rexecode.
For comparison, in Germany people worked an average of 1,790 hours in 2022, the equivalent of three work weeks. And this despite the fact that Germany is not even among the top ten EU countries in terms of population density. Topping this ranking Romania is the only country where people work on average more than 2 thousand hours a year – 2043, that is, 400 hours more than the Finns. The second and third places in terms of workload of workers were taken by Bulgaria (1998) and Greece (1943).
