Finnish Foreign Ministry: defense agreement with the United States will limit the country’s sovereignty
If Finland concludes a defense agreement with the United States, such a step will limit the sovereignty of the republic. The appropriate nature of the agreement was recognized by the working group, which is headed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland.
“A two-thirds majority vote will be required for parliament to decide to approve the agreement,” the Finnish Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Let us recall that Finland became the 31st NATO member on April 4, 2023. In December, Helsinki signed a document with Washington providing for the deployment of troops on the territory of the state. However, the agreement does not provide for the permanent presence of the American army.
