The Finnish authorities rejected a petition demanding the closure of the Russian consulate in the Åland Islands. Yle reports this, citing its sources.
It is noted that the initiative put forward collected the necessary 50 thousand signatures for parliament to consider this proposal. However, the authorities refused to support him.
The parliament clarified that the Russian consulate in Mariehamn is also not being closed due to the existence of certain agreements between Helsinki and Moscow. They emphasized that these agreements do not fall under citizen initiatives.
The day before, Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen announced that the opening of the checkpoint on the border with Russia would be opened in stages.
