Finland plans to stop LNG supplies from Russia

The Finnish government intends to stop deliveries of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia, which are carried out through the state company Gasum, informs newspaper Helsingin Sanomat, citing Tytti Tuppurainen, Minister for European Affairs and Property Management.
“LNG imports from Russia should be stopped,” Tuppurainen said. According to her, Finland and all of Europe are obliged to completely exclude the supply of Russian energy resources.
The Finnish government has every right to stop importing LNG through Gasum, as it is 100% owned by the state. Helsinki, the minister added, aims to get rid of any energy contracts with Moscow.
20 May Finland took Lease a floating LNG terminal from US-based Excelerate Energy to reduce dependence on Russian gas. The vessel is due to enter service next winter and will be based first in the Estonian port of Paldiski and then in Hamina in southern Finland. Reception facilities for the ship will be built in Finland and Estonia. The leased vessel holds 151,000 cubic meters (approximately 68,000 tons) of LNG. They will be regasified at the terminal and supplied to the gas network. Gas in Finland accounts for 5% of energy consumption.
On July 17, it became known that the citizens of Finland may face with a power outage in winter for two hours a day. Such measures may be resorted to in connection with the refusal of Russian energy carriers, oil and gas, the supply of which is “extremely difficult” to reimburse.
