Finland is preparing an agreement with the United States on the deployment of American military bases in the country

Finland is now preparing an agreement with the United States that will allow US military bases to be located in Suomi. This is reported by the Finnish edition Helsingin Sanomat, referring to the deputy head of the political department of the Finnish Foreign Ministry, Mikael Antella.

It is noted that the document being prepared provides not only for the deployment of US bases in the country, but also for weapons and military equipment. Washington has similar agreements in other countries.

At the moment, the details of this document are still unknown, but it is known that it will not concern nuclear weapons.

“Most importantly, the agreement will ensure unimpeded cooperation with the United States in all security situations, as well as in the short term,” the Finnish publication says.

Antella stressed that the corresponding agreement does not contradict the Finnish membership in the North Atlantic Alliance.
