The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has suspended Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva for four years for violating anti-doping rules. According to the court decision, the athlete and the Russian team will be deprived of the gold medal in the team tournament of the 2022 Olympics, but this decision has yet to be approved by the International Olympic Committee.
It was previously announced that Valieva’s doping test, taken at the end of 2021 at the Russian Championship in St. Petersburg, contained the banned drug trimetazidine. RUSADA found Valieva not guilty of intentional violation, but her victory in the Chechen Republic was annulled.
The period of international disqualification for Valieva, according to the decision of CAS, will be counted from December 2021.
