Olympic champion in ice dancing Roman Kostomarov was discharged from the Kommunarka hospital for a week. The figure skater announced this on his social networks.
After a medically induced coma due to pneumonia, doctors had to amputate Kostomarov’s hands to save his life. On Thursday, July 6, after a long-term rehabilitation and recovery, the Olympic champion was discharged for a week before the operation to install permanent prostheses.
“Behind 175 days. All life ahead. Thanks to these people I am alive. Unfortunately, I lost a lot in this joint struggle with death, but there was no other way. – says the skater.
Kostomarov thanked the medical staff of the hospital, especially the head physician Denis Protsenko, who saved his life.
Despite a serious illness, the skater continued to engage in physical activity within the walls of the hospital. Although, according to the forecasts of doctors, only a 2% chance of survival was given. Formerly “MK in St. Petersburg” wrote about Kostomarov’s training after prosthetics.
