Figure skater Kostornaya said she has more prospects in pair skating

Russian figure skater Alena Kostornaya told “Lente.ru” details of her transition to pair skating, emphasizing that she has more prospects in this discipline. It is noted that in January of this year it became known that the athlete began to train in tandem with Georgy Kunitsa.

Kostornaya admitted that after leaving the hospital in October, she wrote to coach Elena Buyanova that she was ready to go “both there and there,” but she needed to finish learning the elements for the show. However, after some time, the athlete realized that she had more prospects in pair skating, and it took her a month to decide everything. The skater clarified that “all the right people” knew from the very beginning, but it was still too early to officially say.

At the same time, Kostornaya notes that she has not yet fully rebuilt. She explained that as a singles skater, the desire to “ride and jump all the time” does not leave her, especially if something does not work out. Nevertheless, the skater realizes that she is not alone, and everything needs to be done together. She added that at such moments “a nightmare begins”, but it constantly gets better, and the athlete is no longer the same as she was at the beginning.

According to the skater, some elements of pair skating are already stable for her, in particular, she is good at spins, parallel jumps and double throws, although she continues to fall from triples. She added that in the gym, she and her partner did a double twist and tried a triple, and it turns out well. Kostornaya clarified that “not exactly great,” as if the couple had been training for ten years, but “bearable.”
