Figure skater Drobyazko appealed the decree of the President of Lithuania depriving her of citizenship

Figure skater Margarita Drobyazko filed a complaint in court against the decree of Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda, by which she was deprived of citizenship. The athlete said that the Vilnius District Administrative Court accepted the documents and ordered the head of state to provide materials “confirming the accusations” by the end of October.

“I believe in justice and justice, which I consider it my duty to defend not only for myself, but also for those citizens of Lithuania who, like me, can become victims of unworthy political games,” Drobyazko wrote on Instagram (the social network belongs to Meta, which is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).

The figure skater noted that she is supported by the majority of Lithuanians (according to a survey by Baltijos Tyrimai, the authorities’ decision to deprive her of citizenship was supported by only 35% of the population). Drobyazko called Lithuanians “the same close people as those living in their historical homeland.”

Margarita Drobyazko received a Lithuanian passport as an exception for her services to Lithuanian sports and popularization of the country in 1993. Mrs. Drobyazko and her husband made the decision to represent Lithuania after the collapse of the USSR. The president deprived her citizenship in mid-September on the recommendation of the Citizenship Commission, which considered that the athlete was “publicly expressing support for Russia.” Margarita Drobyazko was also excluded from the list of holders of the Order of Gediminas, V degree, for her participation in Tatiana Navka’s show “Swan Lake” in Sochi.
