Shots were heard on the Afghan-Pakistani border near the Torkham checkpoint, eyewitnesses reported, who recorded clashes between the Afghan military and Pakistani border troops.
As a result of the incident, they said, thousands of civilians were blocked in the area. On both sides of the border, residents are fleeing their homes in an attempt to leave the danger zone.
The Torkham checkpoint is one of the three key trade routes between the countries. The Pakistani side uses the point to send its goods to the states of Central Asia.
