The International Football Federation (FIFA) and the International Football Association Board (IFAB) are working on a new offside concept, according to a Spanish newspaper. Mundo Deportivo.
It is noted that the initiator of the change in the offside rule is the head of FIFA’s global football department, the famous French football coach Arsene Wenger. According to his idea, an offside position should be considered a position in which the entire body of the attacking player at the time of the pass is closer to the opponent’s goal than the defender. In the event that part of the body of the attacking player is in line with the defender, this offside position will not be considered.
It is assumed that already in the next football season, the new rules for determining offside will be pre-tested in matches of the lower divisions in Sweden, Italy and the Netherlands. If the change is finally approved at the FIFA level, the new offside rules will apply to all club competitions and matches between national teams.
