General Secretary of the Russian Football Union Maxim Mitrofanov said that the International Football Federation (FIFA) is not sending money to Russian Premier League clubs for the participation of their players in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar due to sanctions against the teams.

“For now, money for the participation of players at the 2022 World Cup is blocked. FIFA does not send this money because our clubs are under sanctions,” said Mr. Mitrofanov TASS.

In July 2023 FIFA reported on payments to clubs for the participation of their players in the 2022 World Cup, which was held in Qatar. In total, FIFA distributed $209 million among the teams that sent their players to the tournament.

Among the RPL clubs, in particular, the Cameroonian Dynamo striker Nicolas Mumi Ngamale, as well as the team’s Uruguayan defender Guillermo Varela and Polish midfielder Sebastian Szymanski, took part in the 2022 World Cup. In addition, Croatian defender Dejan Lovren played for Zenit during the world championship.
