FIFA called for automatic defeat for teams for racist fans

FIFA President Gianni Infantino called for the introduction of automatic defeat for football clubs whose fans allowed manifestations of racism, the Championship reports.

Earlier in Italy, a football match between Udinese and Milan had to be interrupted due to inappropriate behavior of fans. They shouted racist slogans from the stands against the black Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan. Udinese fans began to insult him and point out racial differences, and he, not wanting to endure the bullying, left the field. After some time, they were able to return the goalkeeper to the field. As a result, the match was continued, and Milan won with a score of 3:2, scoring the decisive goal in the 93rd minute of the match.

Infantino called what happened at the Udinese and Milan matches disgusting and unacceptable, expressing support for those affected by the incident.

“There is no place for racism and other forms of discrimination, both in football and in society,” said the head of FIFA.

According to Infantino, the fight against racism must begin with school education.

“We must introduce an automatic defeat for a team whose fans were racist and caused the match to be cancelled,” he wrote.
