Due to abnormal frosts in Tashkent, the military deployed field kitchens. This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Uzbekistan. Kitchens were deployed in all districts of the Uzbek capital. People are treated to hot tea and food, books and chess with checkers are distributed for useful pastime at home.
According to weather forecasters, over the past week the temperature in Uzbekistan has dropped to -20 degrees at night, and to 8-15 degrees below zero in the daytime. Since the weekend, the cold is gradually receding.
With the onset of abnormal frosts, residents of Uzbekistan began to massively complain about the shutdown of heating and electricity. Videos appeared on social networks in which people, left without light and heat, burn fires in the courtyards of houses and cook food on them.
The press service of the local power grid operator said that frosts led to a drop in pressure, which increased the load on worn-out equipment. As a result, several districts were immediately without electricity. Similar problems were also reported in the organizations responsible for heating.
On Monday, January 16, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev dismissed the khokim (mayor) of Tashkent, Jahongir Artykhodzhaev, for poor preparations for winter. The chairman of the company “Thermal Power Plants” and the Deputy Minister of Energy were also fired.
