FIBA did not allow Russian basketball players to qualify for the 2024 Olympics

The Executive Committee of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has decided not to allow the Russian national team to the pre-qualification tournament for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. This follows from press release organizations. Qualifying tournaments are scheduled from 12 to 20 August.
From the press release it follows that the decision to deny admission was made in accordance with the “recommendations of the International Olympic Committee on the participation of athletes with Russian or Belarusian passports in international competitions.” The Russian national team at the tournament will be replaced by Bulgaria.
The decisions of the IOC were made public March 28: The committee recommended that Russian and Belarusian athletes be allowed to compete in international competitions in neutral status. The recommendations concerned only individual disciplines, not team competitions, and only those athletes who did not support the Russian military operations in Ukraine.
At the same time, the recommendations of the IOC do not apply to the Olympics in Paris. On it, the committee promised to announce its decision later. Against the admission of Russian athletes to the 2024 Olympics spoke over 30 states.
In March 2022, FIBA, against the background of the Russian military operation, suspended teams from Russia from participating in competitions under the auspices of the organization. In May of the same year, FIBA did not let Russian and Belarusian athletes into the 2023 World Cup.
