The Russian Ice Hockey Federation (RHF) has approved CSKA’s application for goalkeeper Ivan Fedotov, but he will not be able to play for the club until the end of the suspension of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) or its removal. The disqualification is valid until January 1, 2024.
“After its expiration or the decision of the disciplinary committee to lift the sanctions, Fedotov may play for CSKA,” the FHR told TASS.
In 2022, Ivan Fedotov signed a contract with the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League, but was detained at the military enlistment office and sent to a military unit for military service. On July 8, 2023, the Kontinental Hockey League registered a new goalkeeper contract with the Moscow army team.
Philadelphia insist that the agreement concluded in 2022 should be valid in the 2023-24 season. On August 14, the IIHF validated the goaltender’s contract with the Philadelphia. Due to violation of IIHF rules, Fedotov was disqualified from September 1 until the end of 2023.
