Fertilized quail eggs will be sent to the ISS. RIA Novosti reports this with reference to a representative of the Russian Academy of Sciences. An experiment will be conducted on the effect of weightlessness on the development of embryos. It is expected that the cargo will be delivered to Baikonur on November 24 for loading onto the ship.
The equipment for the experiment is already ready. The cargo will have to go into orbit on December 1. The eggs will be collected immediately before shipment from a specially prepared flock of birds. For the purity of the experiment, it is important that they are the same size and approximately the same age.
There will be 24 eggs in total. Immediately before shipping, they will be placed in cells and numbered. This is necessary for the astronauts to retrieve specific eggs at certain stages of the experiment. According to the program, they will be taken out of the incubator on the fourth, seventh, tenth and fifteenth days. This is due to certain stages of embryo development. Quails hatch on the 16th day. All results will be sent to Earth for laboratory analysis.
