Six United Russia senators, who represent the legislative bodies of their regions in the upper house of parliament, have not yet applied for the primaries to select candidates for deputies to participate in the next elections in order to extend their powers. These are Irek Yalalov (Bashkiria), Alexei Mayorov (Kalmykia), Sergey Mikhailov (Trans-Baikal Territory), Dmitry Kuzmin (Kemerovo Region), Rimma Galushina (Nenets Autonomous Okrug) and Olga Khokhlova (Vladimir Region).
All of these senators, with the exception of Mayorov, were delegated to the Federation Council (SF) in 2018 from the legislative assemblies where they were elected. Mayorov has been representing Kalmykia in the upper house of parliament since 2011. On April 27, the submission of documents for participation in United Russia’s preliminary voting ends. In addition, the question of participation in the elections to the Smolensk Regional Duma of the Senator from the Liberal Democratic Party Irina Kozhanova, who has been representing this Legislative Assembly in the Federation Council since 2021, remains open.
