February 9 – do not spin in front of the mirror

February 9 in the folk calendar – Zlatoust fire. In Rus’, on this day, it was considered a good omen if, when the stove was ignited, all the logs caught fire at once, so only dry firewood was put into the stove and stacked in a certain way – for example, with a hut. The fire was maintained throughout the day. According to legend, if the flame does not go out until nightfall, peace and prosperity will reign in the family.

The traditional dish of the day was pies. Moreover, they were prepared not only with fish, but also with any other fillings.

Knives, scissors, axes, and other items that could cut you were handled with care. According to signs, the possibility of injury on this day is especially high.

There are other folk signs for this day. For example, giving and receiving gifts – to trouble or damage. Pick up something on the street – to trouble. Buy new clothes or shoes – to problems at home or at work.

Representatives of the fair sex observed special prohibitions. So, they believed that it was impossible on this day to stand facing the wind for a long time – it would “blow away” youth and beauty; you can’t twist the ring on your finger – to the betrayal of a loved one; you can’t spin in front of the mirror for a long time – you will lose attractiveness in the eyes of men.

Folk signs on February 9 are as follows:

– if the clouds float against the wind – to the snowfall;

– if the stars are in a foggy haze – to thaw and snow;

– if the windows in the house are fogged up – to frost;

– if the dogs roll in the snow – there will be a blizzard.
