FBI detains suspect in case of leak of classified US documents

The FBI arrested the alleged leaker of classified US documents. About it writes newspaper The New York Times (NYT), citing the department.

CBS News citing three US officials informsthat a 21-year-old member of the intelligence unit of the Air National Guard in Massachusetts, Jack Teixeir, officially became a suspect in the case.

First name of the likely culprit of the leak earlier today disclosed NYT, after analyzing a number of interviews and documents online. The publication claims that Teixeir led the online group Thug Shaker Central, which consisted of 20 to 30 people. Most of the chat was young people and teenagers who were interested in weapons, racist memes and video games.

The NYT was able to speak with four members of this group. According to them, it was assumed that the published documents would not fall outside the chat, since they were of an informative nature. The interlocutors reported that the documents were leaked to the public by a teenager who was in the chat.

Earlier today US President Joe Biden declaredthat the leak investigation is approaching its goal. He also expressed concern about the incident, noting that they do not contain anything topical.

Earlier, the US Department of Justice opened a criminal case on the leak of secret Pentagon documents. April 6 The New York Times reportedthat the Pentagon is investigating the leak of secret US and NATO papers detailing the state of Ukrainian forces and plans to build them up ahead of a counteroffensive. The documents talk about the schedules for the supply of weapons, the number of troops, the expenditure of ammunition, but specific information about the time and place of the start of the counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is not given.

On April 7, 100 confidential US documents were published on Twitter, including those related to Ukraine, the Middle East and China. On an anonymous 4chan forum like clarifies NYT, a map of the battles for Artyomovsk (Ukrainian name – Bakhmut) and confidential slides of briefings about China, the Indo-Pacific region and the Middle East also appeared. CNN, which studied the documents, also reported on the surveillance of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky by US intelligence agencies. And The Guardian and the BBC wrote that special forces from NATO countries are operating in Ukraine.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov previously suggested that the leak of Pentagon documents could be a deliberate stuffing in order to spread disinformation.
