Restrictions on abortions introduced by commercial clinics in Tatarstan and Crimea became the reason for the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) to contact the ministries of health of these regions.
In November, private medical institutions in several Russian regions began to deny women abortion operations. In addition to the above-mentioned republics, the list includes some commercial clinics in the Kursk and Lipetsk regions, the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug and Mordovia.
Medical officials in the Primorsky Territory, Chelyabinsk and Kaliningrad regions are considering the possibility of banning abortions in private clinics. Nizhny Novgorod residents went further than others: regional deputies developed a bill banning abortions in private medical institutions at the federal level, which they intend to send to the State Duma.
The Federal Antimonopoly Service reminds that in the Russian Federation it is prohibited to make decisions that limit competition. The department’s specialists asked the regional ministries of health for clarification, which they were required to provide within seven working days.
