Family members of 13 miners recognized as having died under rock rubble at the Pioneer mine in the Amur Region will be paid financial assistance in the amount of their annual earnings. Payments will begin today, April 1, according to the mine operator JSC Pokrovsky Mine.

“The mine will provide support to the miners’ families. They will receive from the mine a one-time payment of the miner’s annual earnings to each family member (parents, spouse, children) and will then receive a monthly payment for children in the amount of one average monthly salary until they reach adulthood,” they said. In addition, the families of miners will receive a one-time payment from the employer from the contracting organization, the insurance company, the regional government, the Social Insurance Fund and the Pension Fund of Russia. If necessary, relatives will be provided with medical assistance and will also pay for their children’s education at universities.

Today, April 1, operator reportedthat the rescue operation at the Pioneer mine has been stopped due to the risk of another collapse. After drilling wells, rescuers came to the conclusion that the horizons where the miners could remain were flooded with water, clay and ice.

On March 18, in the Zeya district of the Amur region, a rock collapsed at the mine of the Pioneer mining and hydrometallurgical plant. 13 miners remained at a depth of 125 meters; they have not been in contact since the incident. A state of emergency was introduced in the region, a case was initiated under Art. 216 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of safety requirements during work). The managing director of Pioneer, Alexey Biryukov, was arrested in this case. Also in the region detained two employees of Rostekhnadzor.
