Facial recognition systems to be installed at Russian border checkpoints

It is planned to install new face recognition systems at the automobile checkpoints on the Russian borders, should from public procurement portal data. The application was placed on February 1st.
The customer indicated the FGKU “Directorate for the construction and operation of facilities of the Russian border”, it is ready to allocate at least 830 million rubles for work. The deadline for submitting applications is February 17, the contractor will be determined on February 21. Installation of all equipment is due to be completed on December 15, 2023.
According to the terms of reference, face recognition systems can be installed in Primorye and the Trans-Baikal Territory on the border with China (Zabaikalsk, Pogranichny and Kraskino checkpoints), in the Kaliningrad region – with Lithuania and Poland (Bagrationovsk, Mamonovo , “Chernyshevskoye”), in the Orenburg region – with Kazakhstan (“Mashtakovo”, “Orsk” and “Sagarchin”), as well as in the Krasnodar Territory – with Abkhazia (“Adler”).
It is clarified that the recognition system should automatically compare the driver’s face with all available images in the biometric database or “in a certain list.” Which list is in question is not specified. The document says that this system is necessary, among other things, to check the face of the driver at the entrance and exit from the checkpoint.
