Extreme swimmers compete for prizes in open water near Gosforth Mountain

For the second time on the shore of the reservoir near Mount Gasfort, lovers of open water swimming from many cities of Russia gather. If swimmers from Kerch, Simferopol and Sevastopol participated last year, then they came from Kaliningrad and Barnaul for the first time.
On Sunday morning, August 21, the flags of the Russian Federation, the St. Andrew’s flag, the flag of the hero city of Sevastopol, the flags of the SharunTeam clubs and the veterans of sports swimming Tavrida Masters were raised over the lake. For athletes from 12 to 63 years old, the organizers of the competition offered two distances: 1000 meters and 3000 meters. For four age categories, the start is common. In the short distance in the overall standings, Dmitry Andreev, who entered the category under 60, finished first with a result of 16 minutes and 20 seconds. Dmitry is 58 years old, he represents Sevastopol, the Tavrida Masters club. Andrei Prokhorov crossed the finish line second in the under 40 category (Kerch, Tavrida Masters). 15-year-old Vera Ovechkina from Barnaul has the third result in absolute terms.
Aksakal of sports swimming 63-year-old Sevastopol resident Igor Ilyin proved that age is not a hindrance to active sports. He swam the distance in 20 minutes, showing the fourth result in the absolute and the first in the category of athletes over 60 years old. Excellent results were shown by young swimmers Roman Absalyamov, Nikita Ogienko, Ilya Myasnikov and the youngest participant in the competition, 12-year-old Darina Borisenko.
CSKA swimming instructor Tatyana Sharun was the first to finish the 3-kilometer distance in 45 minutes. She also represents Sevastopol, the Tavrida Masters club. Three minutes later, 59-year-old Sevastopol resident Sergei Khomyakov finished. Alexander Gavrilov became the bronze medalist in the overall standings and the leader in the category of athletes under 40 years old. The winners in this age category were Artem Filippov and Alexander Sergienko. Anna Goland was the leader in the category of women under 40 years old.
The competition had no official status and was the result of the efforts of several public organizations and active sports enthusiasts. Here they did not fulfill the norms of sports categories, but they gave the opportunity to young people to test their strength, and to veterans – to extend their sports longevity. All participants of the meeting received memorable gifts, the strongest were awarded medals and diplomas. The initiator and main organizer of the meeting, President of the Sevastopol Triathlon Federation Sergey Sharun intends to hold competitions called “Gasforth Mile” next year at a distance of 1800 meters and significantly expand the geography of the competition participants.
