Express: the most stolen things in the planes were life jackets

The most stolen item on the plane was a life jacket. This was reported by the Ukrainian edition published in English. Express with reference to the statement of the flight attendant of one of the largest low-cost airlines in Europe.

According to this expert, most often tourists take life jackets with them from the plane as “souvenirs”. “You’d be surprised how many people steal life jackets from ships as souvenirs,” he told the publication. “You can imagine how serious it would be if someone didn’t have a life jacket when they might need it.”

The article notes that the theft of a life jacket from the cabin of an aircraft can lead to the most serious consequences, especially in the event of splashdown, that is, the landing of an aircraft on water. But difficulties can also arise during the normal work of the flight crew. “If the crew realizes that life jackets are not available, the flight may be delayed or canceled because, under current regulations, an aircraft cannot take off without a minimum amount of emergency equipment, including a life jacket for each passenger,” the publication notes.

First-class passengers are also prone to stealing from aircraft. So, a flight attendant named Joyce, who works for an American airline, told reporters that many first-class passengers steal metal cutlery, coffee mugs, pillows and blankets. And some of the travelers even take hygiene bags with them.

Earlier, CloudPayments analysts found out how the demand for air and railway tickets, as well as the services of travel agencies, has changed on the eve of the New Year holidays in Russia. Thus, interest in buying air tickets online increased by 47% over the year by December, the number of transactions – by 19%, and the average check – by 28% (from 41,464 rubles to 52,986 rubles). Also, according to researchers, the demand for the services of travel agencies increased by 17% over the year, and tours in Russia became more popular by 80%. It is curious that at the same time, their average cost at the end of December 2022 decreased by 5%: the average check for the year fell from 97,120 rubles to 92,264 rubles.
