An explosion was heard in the Japanese city of Wakayama near the site of the speech of the country’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, informs broadcasting company NHK.

The publication clarifies that the explosion was heard before Kishida’s speech in support of the by-election to the Wakayama House of Representatives during a visit to the fishing port of Saigasaki. As a result of the incident, no one was injured, the Prime Minister was evacuated.

According to eyewitnesses, an unknown man threw a cylindrical object that exploded. The police detained the suspect: it turned out to be 24-year-old Ryuji Kimura. According to NHK, he has not yet testified.

With reference to officials, the publication reports that Kishida canceled the speech at the port and went to the Wakayama Prefectural Police Headquarters. But, as planned, he will give a speech near the city railway station.

“I apologize for the inconvenience caused and the inconvenience caused by the incident,” Kishida commented on the incident (quote according to RIA Novosti).
