how to properly fit antiques into a modern interior
In recent years, the combination of incongruous things has become especially popular, for example, vintage items within the framework of modern design. However, sometimes such experiments make you smile. Here, of course, everything depends on the design skills of the home owner. Expert Alexandra Golubeva told MK about whether it is worth using antique things in a modern interior and how exactly to do it.
“Vintage as an art has always been relevant, and in recent years this opinion has become increasingly popular. There are even many different vintage and antique projects that deal with narrow areas – decorations, lighting, upholstered furniture. Vintage is now at its peak, and this is a very good trend, because it is not just about furniture, but about a way of life: an intellectual and creative process, says the gallery owner. – Vintage can and should be used in an ordinary apartment: such items allow the interior to be special, make it meaningful and unique. The first piece of advice is to start with lighting, because it is the right light that creates coziness in a room. Dramatic shades of light can present an already familiar room in a completely new way.”
It is important to complement the interior with decor – for example, vases. It’s little things like this that shape your personality. This can be a spectacular vase in the Chinoiserie style (Chinese motifs in European decor) or made of Italian Venetian glass. Soviet crystal will also come in handy. Among the Soviet heritage, you can find a lot of interesting things by looking at glasses and dishes in a different way, and understand that this is relevant.”
According to the expert, it is possible to give a second life to old furniture that should not be thrown away.
Vintage armchairs after replacing the upholstery and choosing fabric are an excellent solution for an ordinary apartment. Furniture from the seventies and eighties was created for apartments and small spaces with an emphasis on comfort and minimalist design, which is why it fits so easily into modern interiors. In general, among antiques you can find many unique objects that could now only be made to order. For example, large libraries made of solid wood, fireplace portals made of stone that is no longer mined, sculpture and painting. It is thanks to things with history that you can create a modern, timeless interior.
