According to Vladimir Kuznetsov, former head of the radiation safety inspection of the USSR Gosatomnadzor, if the missiles of the Armed Forces of Ukraine hit the fuel storage of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, at least nine countries will feel the consequences of the attack.
The expert explained RTthat about a hundred containers on the territory of the station are filled with spent nuclear fuel. In the event of their destruction, radiation will spread very quickly in the environment. Where the wind will carry the products of this fire – only God knows.
“If there is a group destruction of containers … 20-30 pieces, radioactivity will affect about nine countries: these are Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland, a number of Baltic countries [плюс] territory of Western Ukraine,” Kuznetsov explained.
Deliberate provocations of the Kyiv authorities in relation to nuclear facilities present significant threat to European and global nuclear and radiation safety. This was stated at the talks by Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev and State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Alexander Volfovich.
